There are currently eight community choirs in the Inspiration family:
There are four Inspiration choirs with approximately 300 singers in each group. Based in Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton and Manchester, the choirs meet once a week during school terms to rehearse, with a large concert being performed at the end of each term. Concerts are held at Sage Gateshead with Royal Northern Sinfonia, at Leeds Town Hall with The Orchestra of Opera North and O2 Guildhall Southampton with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
As well as performing our three ‘home’ concerts each year, Inspiration also take their singing into the community. And we don’t stop there. Recent international trips include New York and Disneyland Paris.
Recruitment takes place at the beginning of each term. Visit our recruitment pages to find out more.
Based in Leeds and Newcastle, our two Echo choirs have the same ethos and professional attitude as Inspiration but with a smaller, more intimate number of singers. This enables the singers to work more closely with the Music Directors and explore different repertoire not suitable for the epicicity of the full Inspiration choir. The groups rehearse once a week for 12 weeks with a performance at the end of each ‘term’.
There are two Resonance groups – one in Leeds and one in Newcastle. Singers are selected from the respective Inspiration choirs following annual auditions. Resonance perform at smaller community events where there isn’t room for the full Inspiration choirs. They also occasionally perform as a group in the Inspiration concerts.
Scherzo is a small community choir based in Gainford. It was founded by Gary Griffiths after carol singing with people in his
village in Teesdale a few Christmases ago. Scherzo rehearse weekly on a Friday.
