Inspiration raise over £4,000 for local charities
22 December 2015
Charity fundraising and taking our music out into the community is at the heart of all our choirs and this term has been no exception.
Throughout this term Inspiration Leeds have been fundraising for Blood, Sweat and Cheers after one of its fellow singers was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2014. Blood, Sweat and Cheers is a fundraising group whose sole aim is to raise money for the charity ‘Friends of the Leeds Centre for Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma’ (charity number 509071). This small, local charity supports people from Yorkshire suffering from leukaemia and other blood disorders by promoting research and by helping to equip the haematology wards in the Bexley Wing at St. James’ Hospital.
The grand total raised was an amazing £2550.58. This was raised through number of activities including the sale of tickets for our Christmas dress rehearsal at Leeds Town Hall. We would like to thank The Orchestra of Opera North for their support.
We have received the following thank you from the charity, “Congratulations to you, Inspiration choir and The Orchestra of Opera North for a brilliant dress rehearsal on Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my family. It was very interesting to see how a dress rehearsal goes. We are very grateful to Gary Griffiths and Opera North for allowing this event to benefit 'The Friends'. On behalf of all the Trustees of The Friends of the Leeds Centre for Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma thank you very much. I can assure you that all your efforts are very much appreciated and the money will be put to good use for the benefit of patients and research.”
But our fundraising didn’t end there…
With the help of Inspiration and Echo choirs in Newcastle Susan Craigs raised £360 by selling beautiful knitted angels and animals. This fantastic sum has been donated to St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth, Newcastle.
Leeds singer and expert baker Sheila Willis has raised £414.70 selling cakes and savouries at Inspiration rehearsals. This money is going to a small but important charity called Remember my Baby.
On 17 December Inspiration Leeds performed at the regular Christmas concert at Bexley Wing, St James Hospital in Leeds. The event was organised to raise funds for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal and we were very pleased to be able to present a cheque for over £1000 raised through various activities. We would particularly like to thank John and Joy Smith in helping to raise this fantastic sum.
Inspiration and Resonance in Newcastle also performed at a number of charity events leading up to Christmas, helping to raise money for a number of small local charities.
Finally, a special mention should also go to Inspiration and Echo Leeds singer Sally Moore. In October she completed a gruelling trek through the Grand Canyon raising a staggering £10,074 for Macmillan. The trek was dedicated to fellow singer Derek Howard. Well done everyone!
