Inspiration 5th Anniversary Tour to New York
1 April 2014
Who would believe that Inspiration will this year be celebrating its fifth anniversary. By way of celebration, the choir will be travelling across the pond in late April where we will be launching ourselves on New York!
Both the Leeds and Newcastle choirs will be combining to form a 160 strong group of excited singers ready to show our audiences just what Inspiration is made of...
During the six day trip we will be performing two ticketed concerts, giving spot performances at some very well known tourist attractions and singing in perhaps the most famous concert hall in the United States!
Our first spot performance will be in the Naumberg Bandshell, Central Park, which should whet our appetite for that evening's prestigious concert in Saint John the Divine, the cathedral of Episcopal Diocese of New York and the largest cathedral in the world, where we are honoured to have been invited to perform at an International Rescue Committee event hosted by David Miliband. The IRC has over 33,000 members, all of whom have been notified of the event, so we expect nothing less than a sell out! With music including Non Nobis Domine and the Hallelujah Chorus, this promises to be a spectacular concert.
The Statue of Liberty will see our second spot performance next day, followed by a visit to Ellis Island. We hope to draw in the crowds with our choice of song and attract as much attention as possible - easy enough anyway in our uniform of 'black with a splash'! The flagpole at the Statue of Liberty should provide a spectacular photo opportunity with the Manhattan skyline behind us.
The evening will see our party take in the Broadway musical performance of The Lion King. This is going to be one show where the cast will never believe they could have 160 extras! It may be a good idea if we took enough bags of sweets to suck to avoid joining in at relevant moments!
Day four takes in another spot performance in Times Square, hopefully on the red steps. After last night's show, no doubt our chosen song is bound to be sung with as much enthusiasm and energy!
That evening will see our next ticketed concert, this time at the Merkin Concert Hall in the Kaufman Centre which again promises to be another great sing. Check their website for April 26th and see our name in lights!
Lunchtime next day will see our total party of 200 dine at the Hard Rock Cafe - one wonders if they've ever had such a large group booking before! But the choir had better not indulge themselves too much as the best has yet to come...
How could we go to New York and not sing at the most famous concert hall of them all? Carnegie Hall no less! We are thrilled to have been invited to open the National Youth Choir / National Christian Choir event at the WorldStrides Heritage Performance Festival and again promise to wow them all with our full Lion King medley before being able to relax, watch the rest of the show and keep pinching ourselves that yes we really have just sung on the stage of Carnegie Hall!
After such a trip of a lifetime there's only one quote that springs to mind from the late, great Kenny Everett....FOLLOW THAT!!
