Your Song – a mix tape for 600 singers

25 May 2011

Both groups, Leeds and Newcastle, are well into rehearsals now for our next exciting concert, which is made up of songs that have been chosen by the singers themselves.

Some choices have been made because of unique personal stories, others just because “I thought it would sound nice”. Whatever the reason this concert is a fabulous mix of styles, and we are having a ball in rehearsals.

By far the most popular choice was The Beatles so we have quite a few songs from them, including ‘Yesterday’, ‘Hard Day’s Night’, ‘Michelle’, and of course ‘Hey Jude’. We also cover the classical side with the ear-splitting ‘Dies Irae’ from the Verdi Requiem, and the more ethereal ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’ from John Rutter’s Requiem. Pop isn’t forgotten as we bring out our fabulous Madonna ‘Like a Prayer’ and Take That's ‘Shine’.

The Leeds group will be performing ‘Your Song’ with The Orchestra of Opera North at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday 9 July. Find out how to get tickets.

The Newcastle group will be performing ‘Your Song’ with Northern Sinfonia at The Sage Gateshead on Sunday 17 July. Find out how to get tickets.
