Steven Hood

Steven has been playing the piano for the last 25 years. Over that period, he has developed as a solo pianist, accompanist, rehearsal pianist, arranger and musical director. He has served as rehearsal pianist for a number of theatre companies throughout the North East and has played in the orchestra pit at the major North-east theatres.

He has worked as musical director for a number of shows at the Sunderland Empire and the Tynemouth Priory Theatre, including Me and my Girl, The King and I, Mr Cinders and Carousel. Over the last 8 years, he has worked with Durham Musical Theatre Company as their musical director. With DMTC, his credits include traditional shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, Scrooge, Hello Dolly and 42nd Street along with regional premiere productions of A Tale of Two Cities, Grand Hotel and Sunset Boulevard. Steven particularly enjoys MD’ing Sondheim musicals and was the musical director for Sweeney Todd in 2013.

Steven also enjoys arranging and was responsible for two staged concerts at the Gala Theatre, Durham for which he arranged the music for a company of 70 voices and a small combo orchestra. He also recently arranged all of the music for a recent concert covering the history of British musicals.

Professionally, Steven is qualified as a Barrister and works as a Magistrates’ Court Legal Adviser. Steven is very excited to be working with Inspiration Leeds and wishes them all the best with their concert.
