Sue Mitchell

Director of Community Involvement

When Gary first asked whether Sue would be involved in Inspiration, little did she know where that would lead! Many concerts later, numerous seating plans, dressing room allocation, organising of events – life with Inspiration is very busy, but she wouldn’t change it, and loves it when the plan comes together.

Sue’s day job is at Newcastle University as the Research Funding Development Manager for the Humanities and Social Science Faculty. The broad remit of her job is to raise research income to the University from external funding sources, by supporting and encouraging academic staff to write applications and apply for funding for their research. Sue’s role is all things connected to professional administration. A major part of her job is to make things happen. Liaising with funders, communicating and negotiating with people from all walks of life at all levels, and promoting the strengths of Newcastle University, all helpful skills for her role with Inspiration!

Prior to her current role Sue spent nearly eight years as a researcher at the University, researching all aspects of family life. She has a BSc (Hons) in Sociology and Social Research and an MSc in Social Research as well as a certificate in Marketing Research.

As you can probably tell, Sue has to be highly organised at work, a deadline is a deadline and there is no margin for error. However, all of the above translates very nicely into her role with Inspiration – she  organises things!

On a different note, singing is of course a great passion and over the last few years Sue has been slowly re-learning to play the piano. She is also qualified in Swedish Massage (great for everyone else) and has been called upon on a few occasions to relieve aching muscles of choir members on performance days. Lastly, but certainly not least, she loves spending time with her three grown up (?) children, all of whom have fled the nest but still flock back at very regular intervals.

Sue loves being part of the Inspiration team and says, “who knows where the journey will take us but I’m certainly committed to going on the journey, wherever that may lead us”.
